itsnotwhatihaveIt’s not what I have been through in my life that defines who I am, it’s how I got through it that has made me the person I am today… I totally relate to this.  It’s called taking responsibility for yourself and your circumstances and stop blaming the economy, the president, where you were born, where you currently live, making excuses, etc.  It’s about understanding who you are and what you can do to make a happier and healthier you.

Who were you as a child?  What were your circumstances while you were growing up?   I understand that many of you had a difficult childhood- perhaps from a parent’s divorce, alcohol/drug abuse, physical/mental abuse, premature deaths of family and friends, a physical or mental disability, poor living conditions, or whatever detrimental circumstances came upon you… and there are those who grew up with a supportive family, perhaps wealthy, not many or easy to handle issues, living in nice neighborhoods/communities, went to private schools, taking over the family biz, or whatever carefree circumstances came upon you… then, there are those who had the best and worst of both worlds.

What has become of you now?  What have you done to get yourself through to today?  Those going through the not-so-great childhood, some will get so sick and tired of where they are and their situations, that they dig deep inside of themselves, and decide to break away from all of the negativity, at any cost.  These are the people, as well as the middle of the road people, who have a passion for renewed life, with a great rags to riches story (not necessarily monetarily wealthy, but rich in happiness).  Unfortunately, there are some who succumb to deepening the negative side of life- abuse, drugs, violence, crime, etc.- they also have a story,  but not wanting or not having the care or desire to change.  The same with the affluent- there is room for change, maybe you want to go in a different direction than where your family expects you to go, some have the money buys all mentality, some donate their time and monies to the community and charities, some have given up their wealth to live a less aristocratic lifestyle.

I grew up in the middle of the road, not really any negative influences, a pretty big family including uncles, aunts, cousins.  Happy days.  But confusion in what I wanted to be when I grew up.  My main change came about a few years ago (I am currently 50 years young)- it was an occupational change and a life change.  From some family and friends, I’ve had to deal (as many of us do) with “why do you want to do that”, “you can’t do that”, “you didn’t go to school for that”… most likely out of caring about me or not wanting me to get hurt and not from a purposeful negative stance.  Fortunately, I didn’t have to go through the “I want you to be a…” or “I expect you to take the company over” (“or a father and son”).  It is still a work in progress for me, but I am happy about the positive changes that I’ve made- going from a job situation that was physically not healthy for me (and I was in the medical field) to a heart-centered business helping people get wealthy, healthy, and happy, as well as meeting new friends and colleagues that support me.

What changes have you made throughout your life to become who you are now?  Maybe, you feel that changes need to be made, but not sure how to go about it.  Feel free to respond in the comment area.
