Courage

My virtue for this week is Courage.

The definition of courage is: The state or quality of mind or spirit that enables one to face danger, fear, or vicissitudes with self-possession, confidence, and resolution; bravery.  Heart; mind; thought; feeling; inclination; desire.  State or frame of mind; disposition; condition.

This week, I observed courage thousands of times each day and even expressed it myself.  Each morning and afternoon, as I drove to and from work, all of the passengers in their vehicles had the courage to get up and go to their destination.  Some drivers proved their courage even more by weaving through traffic, dangerously, because they needed to go faster and/or needed to get to where they were going in record time.  Travelers boarding flights (and those scrambling to rebook cancelled flights, await the delays).  Employees working with courage, especially those of service as policeman, fire fighters, EMTs, medical personnel, etc.  Those who face unfavorable news.  Patients going for medical and surgical procedures.  People speaking up and voicing their opinions.  A few got inspired, motivated, and courageous by stepping up and out of their comfort zone.  We can’t forget those who are in battle and war, fighting for their country.  Athletes are courageous as they take the field, the court, etc. and put their all into their craft.  These are just a few examples that I was witness to and/or had the courage to do.

What have you noticed or taken part of that you consider to be of courage?  Same as last week, become intentional and keep track daily.  This is a great mindful practice.  Building it over time will benefit you personally and in your career.

Stay tuned for next week’s virtue…
