I’ve never found time spent amongst nature to be a waste of time… spending time with nature is spending time with Mother Earth. Whether it’s working out in the yard mowing the lawn or gardening, going for a walk in a park, wooded area, along a river, pond, lake, or ocean side, swimming in a lake or ocean, hiking up hills and mountains, hugging a tree, etc.- it is so healthy mentally and physically, especially if you take the time to meditate. Being in and around nature is the safest and most effective way to deal with when you are feeling down or have depression. It clears the mind from the busyness and negativity swirling around up there.
I don’t get out and be in tune with nature/Mother Earth as much as I want (yes, I get to work on that), I don’t mind cutting the lawn or weeding our garden- it gives me renewed energy. When we travel for work, we’ll do our best to get out and do some walking. When taking long weekend vacations to Ogunquit, ME, we always walk the Marginal Way several times, go down to the shoreline (when low tide) and walk along the beach and the rock formations jutting out. In New York City, we always walk through Central Park and along the streets and avenues. In Canada, or when we take extended vacations out of the country, our main transportation is our feet- walking everywhere. For me, it frees my mind and allows the beauty of where we are to come in and fills me up with wonder, love, gratefulness, and appreciation. Definitely not a waste of time, but a time for healing.
If you are feeling stressed out, have mind clutter, down and out, depressed- please do yourself a favor and get outside, receive natural Vitamin D from the sun, sit, walk, play, or do whatever floats your boat and enjoy the health benefits of Mother Earth. You will find that your energy level has increased, your mind is clearer, you can think better and smarter, and get more in tune with yourself. Just do it!
